macOS 10.16 Monterey launched on October 25, 2021. Should I install yet?

The general rule is to give a new release at least a month before using. This gives Apple some time to fix any possible bugs.

More importantly, why do you need to upgrade (unless you are running Mojave or earlier)

Be careful, make a full time-machine backup and make sure your computer is compatible, has enough free disk space and is NOT running a conventional HDD (Hard-disk-drive) …as an update such as this will likely kill the HDD.

If you're upgrading from macOS Sierra or later, your Mac will need 26GB of available storage to upgrade. If you're upgrading from an earlier release, your Mac will need up to 44GB of available storage.

If you're using macOS Mojave or later, you can get macOS Monterey via Software Update: Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Software Update.

If you DO NOT want to upgrade to Monterey but only wish to update the current macOS …click on “More Info” instead of “Upgrade Now”
