Beware the ATO Refund Notification email Scam

Beware the latest hitting Australian Businesses with the subject line of “Australian Taxation – Refund Notification

Although it appears to have originated from noreply@.gov.au  it actually came from  and a return address of aoglyvlxq@bluelion.com

The email contains a zip file

A computer with a good program SHOULD have picked up the email and flagged or quarantined  the email as it contains a trojan horse .

If you have clicked and open the attachment your computer will be infected with a nasty virus designed to send your banking details onto a third-party. Please DO NOT login to your bank account or the ATO site until you have had your scanned and the virus removed.

If you suspect your computer may have a virus.

  • Stop using your computer or immediately.
  • Bring it to us or another reputable computer professional (NOT a mobile only service) for a complete scan and check. We will need it for 2 to 8 hours. Cost of a scan and clean is between $55 and $200 depending on level of infection.

    What happens if I opened the fake tax file on my IPhone? When I opened it, it was just a blank page…
