In this case the problem was caused by a misconfigured SPF (Sender Policy Framework) record in Microsoft Hosted Exchange.
Up until 2021 iiNet and Westnet mail servers were not strictly enforcing the SPF policy on their incoming mail servers. Once they tightened the policy incoming emails from poorly configured email accounts, started being rejected. This could be the reason why you are only just experiencing such issues.
