Antivirus Security Pro is a SCAM – Here is how to remove it.

If you have seen this on your PC you have a serious piece of “malware” or a “computer-virus” on your PC called Antivirus Security Pro. Antivirus Security Pro is a SCAM and the people running it are after your personal information and credit card number with the aim of emptying your bank account and stealing your identity. Antivirus Security Pro is a fake security scanner which is designed to look like a real antivirus program and encourages the user to buy the full version by displaying false security alerts. Antivirus Security Pro is designed specially to threat computer users and motivate them for buying full version of Antivirus Security pro which is just a bogus software. What actually happens is, you are browsing the web and suddenly you see that Antivirus Security Pro is scanning your computer! You don’t even know how this program got installed into your computer and but your computer is infected! How to remove Antivirus Security Pro 1) Using a computer not affected by the virus, go to the Microsoft site and download “Windows Defender Offline” remembering to download the version that matches your operating system (you can find this out by going to Control Panel > System and Security > System and looking under “System Type“) 2) Burn the program to a CD or DVD 3) Restart your PC using the Windows Defender Offline media. 4) Perform a FULL Scan your PC for malicious and other potentially unwanted software. 5) Remove any malware that is found from your PC. …. and be careful what you download in future 🙂 Related Posts and Articles HOW TO USE APPLE’s TIME MACHINE TO BACKUP TO AN EXTERNAL DEVICE Top 6 checks to make sure your computer is protected from Viruses and Malware How to use Microsoft’s default program to backup to an external device or hard drive Beware of scam emails about downloading Windows 10 Opening an email from Australia Post has had 3 clients in 3 days lose ALL their data to the CRYPTOLOCKER virus How to avoid Computer Viruses – Stop using Bing https://www.itguyswa.com.au/your-apple-mac-has-a-virus-this-is-not-a-joke/ Prevent viruses by not allowing others to use your computer account How to avoid Computer Viruses – Stop using Bing https://www.itguyswa.com.au/windows-8-users-open-to-adobe-reader-viruses/ How can I tell if my computer has a virus? https://www.itguyswa.com.au/how-to-remove-the-dosearches-search-virus/ How to remove the “Snap-Do” search virus Australian Federal Police virus scam Antivirus Security Pro is a SCAM – Here is how to remove it. Are you being kept updated?

The operating Systems (OS) of any computer running Windows or Mac OS, needs to be constantly updated.     Updates usually take place on a daily basis to maintain security, integrity and the usability of the computer. New bugs and security threats are being discovered daily and just like your virus checker, these threats and bugs have to be fixed before they become vulnerable to a hacker or intruder.   Most updates are scheduled to update-automatically on a daily basis, but that does not mean you are getting the updates. For some unknown reason, Microsoft thinks we all have our PC’s switched on at 3am So the first thing to do to increase your chances of getting regular updates when your PC is switched on is to update the time that windows schedules it’s updates to a time when your PC is most likely to be switched on. Updating Windows XP OS This is how to check that your computer is being kept up to date if you are using the Windows XP operating system XP tells you there are are updates available by displaying a yellow shield in the bottom right hand corner of the screen (this is an enlarged version). Click on the yellow shield and follow the prompts to install updates.               When you shut down your PC you will see this screen whenever there are updates to install. If you RARELY or NEVER shut down your PC you may not be getting these updates. You should shut down your PC at least once a day.           If you have NOT seen either of the above recently, run WINDOWS UPDATE manually by doing one of the following from the Start Menu                                 Or by going to “Control Panel” and then clicking on the windows Update link on the left hand side under “See Also” The locate of windows update differs depending on the version of Windows XP Once updates have been installed you maybe prompted to restart your PC. Press the “Restart Now” button.                                       As above most updates are scheduled to update-automatically at 3am. To increase your chances of getting regular updates when your PC is switched on is to update the time that windows schedules it’s updates to a time when your PC is most likely to be switched on.                         Updating Windows Vista and Windows 7 OS The procedure for Visa and Windows 7 are almost identical as follows: Look uut for the warning flags in the bottom right hand corner of your screen     If you see a flag with a cross or an exclamation mark     hover over the flag and you will get an indication of the problem. Click on the flag to goto the “Action Center” where you will be informed if updates are required.     In the “Action Center” click on “Windows Update” in the bottom left of the window, this will take you to the windows update page.                   You can also access this page through Control Panel > System and Security > Windows Update. This panel allows you to check for updates, view update history and to check for additional updates. Click on “Change Settings” to modify the time you receive updates (see above) If you don’t want or can’t fix the problem yourself, give us a call and we can fix it. Come to us in Subiaco or we can come to you. Written by John Kirkby Tags: automatic updates, windows 7, windows update, windows vista, windows xp

Windows Live Mail and Windows Live Writer cannot open attachments ?

Are you suddenly unable to open .doc and .docx attachments? Has your Windows Live Mail suddenly stopped allowing you to open attachments such as those ending with .doc and .docx?     Have you suddenly been unable to open .doc and .docx files from your computer using Windows Live Writer? Well correct me if I’m wrong but I suspect this has been caused by a Microsoft update and is a callous marketing attempt by Microsoft to have you purchase Microsoft Office. This may happen to anyone running “Windows Essentials” which probably came bundled free with your PC or Laptop. Windows Essentials comes with two programs “Windows Live Mail” and “Windows Live Writer” My clients PC and Windows Live mail was working fine until 12th September 2013, from when she was unable to open any such attachments from mail or from her Writer program and was prompted to purchase a copy of Microsoft Office. We solved the problem on her computer by finding a document with .doc or .docx and right-clicking it, selecting “open with” and then “default program” and “Microsoft Office Client Virtualization Handler” and repeated this on the .doc and .docx files. From then on she could open the files on her desktop using the “Windows Live Writer” program installed. Need more help? Windows crashed by auto-update has slowed my PC down

Damn you Windows auto-update!!!!!! How many times have you been in the middle of a long document or program when BANG…….. windows starts to shut down due to an auto-update ………….. ARGGGGGG so frustrating, let’s hope the Word autosave was working? Recently this happened to a Windows 7 PC I was working on which just crashed without any warning but I later found out it was trying to perform a shutdown and auto-install a windows update. When the PC rebooted it was very very slow and took an age to start up. When I tried to restart the PC I noticed a warning symbol on the “Shutdown” button (see below) The mouseover message on the button said “Installs updates and then shuts down your computer“, so the restart had not installed the updates and the system had been left “hanging“. It took another 2 restarts to have all the updates fully installed and the PC return to normal. The updates are KB2760588 KB2760583 KB2760411 Which appear to have been installed at least three times on 12 September 2013 One solution is to try uninstalling the patches Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features > Installed Programs > Uninstall a program locate the three patches, uninstall them and reboot and see if that fixes the problem. Hopefully Microsoft will make up, reads their own complaint blogs and do something about the problem. Someone in Microsofts quality department needs a kick-up-the-arse for this update release for sure. The Top 4 ways to store your data in the cloud for FREE

We name the Top 4 ways to store your data in the cloud for FREE (in August 2013) If you are looking for offsite storage and backup for your data, photos, music, documents etc. these 4 solutions offer you similar features but with varying amounts of storage. As you can see from the table below, once you get beyond the FREE storage limit, the prices for extra storage can start to be expensive. The following free storage limits and prices for additional storage were current in August 2013, but click on the links to each option to find out the latest deals for yourself (and please update the blog by leaving a comment). August 2013 Name FREE Storage Extra Storage Google Drive 15 GB extra 100 GB $4.99/month Microsoft Skydrive 7 GB extra 10 GB $20/year Apple iCloud 5 GB extra 10 GB $21/year Drop Box 2 GB extra 100 GB $99/year As a business we use Google Drive to store all our company records such as documents, spreadsheets, images, brochures, presentations etc. And now use the FREE and built in tools such as “Document” “Spreadsheet” “Presentation” and “Drawing” rather than Microsoft Office. We collaborate on documents with contractors and colleagues all over the world in real-time. If your an avid Word/Excel addict, simply configure the default storage directory to your local Google Drive on your PC and they will be synced automatically in the Google Drive cloud. Personally I use the Apple iCloud service to backup and share data among my Apple devices such as my iPhone, iPad and iMac. My pictures, music, contacts are stored automatically and my data backed up to be used on those devices anywhere in the world. If your a Microsoft geek with a Windows PC, Microsoft Phone etc Then Skydrive is probably for you and offers similar storage deals and pricing to Google Drive. The interface and workings appear to be a copy of drive. Drop box was the original “cloud” solution but is now struggling to stay in touch with the big three but it still has an army of loyal fans. As well as these four there are hundreds of cloud storage offerings. Just do a search for “Cloud Storage” … a Google Search of course 🙂 If you don’t want or can’t fix the problem yourself, give us a call and we can fix it. Come to us in Subiaco or we can come to you. PPC Advertising v Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)

We can have your website listed at #1 in Google Searches for your preferred phrase or keyword within 7 days using PPC Advertising. You’ve put a lot of time, effort and expense into putting together your website. But is anyone visiting your site or finding it from an internet search? If not, it’s been an expensive and time consuming exercise with no return on your investment. There are many, many great websites out there that look fantastic and are full of useful information and great products. Thousands more are added every day, so there is a lot of competition to being seen in search results and to attain the exclusive #1 position in Google Rankings. No doubt you are already being bombarded by SEO companies (Search Engine Optimisation)  from around the world, claiming they are “the world’s best SEO company” and can guarantee you a “#1 Google listing”  (if you live in Perth you may have also noticed some very large billboards and expensive cars advertising the same message). SEO is the new snake-oil and SEO Companies are the new snake-oil-salesmen SEO companies usually want to charge you a lot of money initially with large ongoing monthly fees to maintain your ranking and with no guarantee of sucess. An alternative to SEO is PPC Advertising. PPC adverting sounds expensive, but it need not be if implemented correctly. The IT Guys have been utilising PPC Advertising in the form of Google Adwords and Bing Adwords, ourselves and on behalf of our clients for many years and getting highly qualified and filtered traffic to their websites for as little as 15c per lead (click)… hence the term PPC (pay-per-click). When SEO service companies talk of a #1 ranking in Google, they are talking about having your site or product appear in the #1 “Organic”  listing or position (unpaid) when users search for your company, product or service on their computer, phone or device. You can spend weeks or months and thousands of dollars getting your web page to #1 organically using SEO, only to find there are already one to three paid advertisements (PPC Advertising) above your very expensive Organic listing. What you have effectively paid for is a #2 to #4 listing. And it does not end there. Keeping your #1 organic ranking is an ongoing, expensive and time consuming exercise. SEO companies will tell you that Google and Bing users don’t look at advertisement but they are very wrong. We’ve been using PPC ourselves very successfully over the years and Google and Bing are making millions of dollars per day out of the service, they don’t make any money for organic listings. Organic listings make money for the SEO companies mainly. The only guaranteed way of getting your company, preferred search term or phrase to #1 or at least a first page ranking, is to pay for it using Google Adwords or Bing Adwords.   For only a few hundred dollars we will set you up with the necessary tools to get you going and have your advertisements listed. We will also teach you how to maintain and monitor the PPC service on an ongoing basis. We don’t charge ongoing monthly fees and you can always get free advise and help from your assigned Google account manager. However, if you wish us to provide ongoing assstance, help and monitoring of your account, we are happy to quote you for that also.   SEO Services v PPC Advertising SEO Services PPC Advertising Lead in Time to implement SEO Services v PPC Advertising Google and Bing refresh there listing once a month, so an initial listing would only happen between 1 and 30 days. SEO Techniques rely on linking to other sites and may not become apparent for 1 to 2 months As soon as Adwords accounts have been setup, PPC advertising can commence. This can be as quickly as 1 day. Lead in Time to make changes Required changes/tweaks made to fix mistakes or improve the listing will not become apparent for another 30 days (from date of change) Keywords can be instantly added and the changes to your adverts will take effect within an hour of implementation. (24 hrs for changes to advertisements) Ongoing Time/Costs Algorithms used to rank websites are constantly evolving and changing. A #1 listing last week, may slip to #20 within days. This requires constant changes and updating links etc which the SEO company will have to carry out meaning you have ongoing costs that may or may not improve your listing. As above, changes can be made instantly at any time, by your PPC Consultant or yourself. Your ranking can also be changed by either increasing or decreasing your keyword bids or budget. This can be carried out yourself or by a PPC Consultant. Can I switch listing on/off when not needed? Once listed, the site is very difficult to remove from the listing. If you are very busy and you’d rather not receive more enquiries (maybe your going on holiday for some time) you cannot simply pause or turn off an organic listing. You have full and instant control over your PPC advertising account. In can be paused or switched off within minutes. It can be configured to only display on certain days during certain time periods and to very specific geographical locations. Can I quickly list a new website? Google/Bing do not like new websites – Trying to get a website listed that is under 12 months old is almost impossible using SEO techniques Once the Adwords account has been approved and the Credit Card verified, advertising can usually commence within 24 hrs. How we work Time Line Approx Hours Activities Day 1 – 3 1 – 2 hrs Examine existing site title and header, create keyword report, agree with client on target keywords, phrases, audience, budget. Implement Adwords, Analytics, Webmaster Tools and establish baseline to measure against. Day 4 – 7 15 mins Agree with client, switch PPC advertising on. Day 14/21 1 hr […]

Computer Virus and Spyware Removal

We specialise in the complete removal of Computer Viruses, Malware, Spyware and other malicious and unwanted programs from your PC, Laptop or Macintosh Is your computer acting strangely and has become unresponsive? Are your friends getting spam from you? Are strange “popup” windows appearing randomly? Is your computer reporting programs or data no longer exists? Have you stopped receiving windows updates? Has your Anti-virus or Firewall switched itself off? Is your computer very slow or not starting properly? If you answered “Yes” to any of the above questions, chances are your PC, Laptop or Macintosh has probably become infected with a “Computer Virus” or “Spyware” (collectively known as Malware) and needs to be removed immediately. Some viruses are merely annoying (popup windows and advertising) others may stop your machine from working properly such as connecting to the internet or slowing it down. Others can corrupt your data or encrypt your data and then hold you to ransom until you pay the creator a sum of money (this is known as “Ransomware“). However the most dangerous ones are those that simply hide undetected and send personal details such as your bank details and passwords to the criminals who developed them. These are known as “Trojans” after the Trojan horse employed by the Spartans in ancient times. There are no quick-fixes when it comes to computer virus removal There are many programs for download both FREE and PAID that claim to get rid of 100% of all know viruses. DO NOT BELIEVE THAT CLAIM . Most of them actually give you MORE viruses. The ONLY reputable Anti-virus makers are AVG, McAfee, Symantec, Norton’s, Avira, Trend, Kaspersky but none of these programs will remove a virus …… they merely detect a computer virus before they activate. One of the few programs that does remove Malware and Viruses is called MalwareBytes but even that will not remove 100% of all viruses but is excellent at removing Spyware and Adware. Do not believe Mobile Computer Technicians that visit you at your home and claim to remove viruses in an hour or two. You can do the same as them for FREE by downloading a FREE copy of Malwarebytes. For a THOROUGH virus check and removal we need to have your computer for 4 to 24 hours and we will use two or three programs including a RESCUE DISK … that removes dangerous viruses such as Trojan’s by scanning every file on your PC using a non-windows operating system such as Ubuntu. The IT Guys (WA) use a unique in-house 12 step process that as well as removing viruses, checks and updates browsers, operating systems, browser add-ons, browser toolbars, anti-virus programs, anti-spyware programs, search-engines, non-essential programs, PUPs, Registry entries, Short-cuts and emails. Only by using such techniques can we guarantee that 100% of computer viruses have been removed. This is why we need you to bring your PC, Macintosh or Laptop to our office as the process cannot be done properly with a brief home-visit. By bring your infected computer, PC or Laptop to our Subiaco repair center we will save you up to 50% compared to the average call-out mobile Geek Computer Technician who will charge a minimum of $150 and not do a thorough job. Computer Viruses, Malware or Trojans are created by criminals or anarchists with the intention of disrupting your activities or more seriously trying to steal your passwords, bank account details or identity. Every PC or Laptop (not so much Apple products) needs to be protected by an Anti-virus program (Norton, McAfee, Symantec, AVG etc) and updated regularly to protect you from such attacks. However these programs cannot guarantee your safety 100% and if your system becomes infected, urgent steps need to be taken to fix the problem. If your Virus Checker is out of date it needs to be replaced or renewed to stop viruses returning to your computer. If you suspect your PC has become infected with a virus, please contact us   Call now for your FREE Advice and a quotation to remove the virus Remember that prevention is always better than cure.
