How to switch on Automatic iOS and App updates for iPhone and iPad

How to switch on Automatic iOS and App Updates for Apple iPhone and Apple iPad As of September 2017 there is no way of automatically installing updates for the operating system on iOS (iPhone, iPad etc) but it can be done on OSx (Macbooks, iMacs etc) For now, keep an eye on the “Settings” icon on your iPhone or iPad and if it has a number in the top right corner, an update is required. Click on : “Settings” > “General” > “Software Update” However, Apps can be automatically updated on iPhones and iPads. Click on “Settings” > “iTunes & App Stores” Under “Automatic Downloads” switch on “Updates”   Also See the following: Are your Apple Devices up to date? How to switch on OSx and App updates for iMac/Macbook

How to switch on Automatic OSx updates and App updates for Apple iMac’s and Apple Macbook’s iMac and Macbook users can have OS and Apps automatically updated and installed by doing the following. In your iMac, Macbook, Mac Mini, Open up “System Preferences” (there are a number of ways to do this) including the following : In “System Preferences” select “App Store” in “App-Store” select all the options to ensure that both OS X updates and App updates will be Automatically Installed   The page will indicate when updates were last checked, click on the “Check Now” button to look for yourself. The second way to do this is to open “About This Mac” from the Apple Icon ..and then click on “Software Update” This will take you to the “App Store” where available updates (if any) will be shown to you. App Store – Checks for available Updates If there are NO updates available, you will be greeted my a similar message as below: If updates ARE AVAILABLE, you will encounter a message like the following, which may give you the choice of installing a major update such as Yosemite or El Capitan or Sierra Or you may be offered updates to individual programs such as Safari or Mail or in this case “the Unarchiver” Or you maybe given the choice of installing security updates If given such a choice, it is safest to click on “Update All” rather than picking and choosing, but be aware of the following: Backup – Make a full time machine backup or (update your current backup) of your iMac/Macbook BEFORE downloading and installing updates. Power – Don’t do any updates if only running on battery. Plug the charger in. Failed/part updates because of power loss may corrupt your OS. Internet – Ideally connect to the internet with an Ethernet wire rather than over WIFI. Failed/part updates because of internet loss may corrupt your OS. Restart – Remember to Restart or ShutDown the Computer, leave a few seconds and then restart. Only then will the updates install. Shutting a MacBook lid DOES NOT turn the Computer off. It merely puts it to sleep and updates are not installed. It is very important to keep Apple’s Operating System (OSx) and Apps updated to avoid security and compatibilities with iPhones and iPads. If you need assistance in checking the above and performing the updates, give us a call on 08 6365 5603 and make an appointment to come and see us. HP Printer problems since OSx 10.10 Yosemite

Has your HP Printer been giving you problems recently? … since upgrading to OSx 10.10 (Yosemite)? Well as you mention it, since upgrading to OSx 10.10 Yosemite, my HP multi-function printer has been very slow to print, documents in the print queue would freeze and many many more printer problems. It seems that mine was not an isolated incident and thousands of HP/Apple users have been suffering equally. Having tried a number of suggested fixes, the one found here finally worked and I can recommend it to anyone out there having printer problems,   Reset Printing System Click the Apple icon, and then click System Preferences. In the Hardware section, click Print & Fax/Scan. The Print & Fax/Scan  dialog box opens. Right-click (or  Ctrl  +click) in the left panel, and then click Reset printing system… Click OK to confirm the reset. Type the correct Name and Password. Click OK to reset the printing system. The Print & Fax dialog box shows no printer selected Note: This will remove all printers in the print and Fax/Scan, any printer removed can be re-added later by clicking the plus (+) symbol. Repair Disk Permissions On the Dock, click Applications, and then click Utilities. Double-click Disk Utility. Highlight your hard drive/partition on the left (by default this is “Macintosh HD”). Click the Repair Disk Permissions button at the bottom of the window Once the repair is complete, restart the computer and download and install the HP Printer Drivers for OS X. Now when you add the printer, you should have the HP driver to choose. If for any reason your printer driver is not there, then select the AirPrint driver. Select Add other Printer or Scanner Select the printer you are adding and next to ‘Use’ you can select the printer driver (or AirPrint)     :jk:

How to get rid of “Ask.com” toolbar and search

Is the “Ask” toolbar or “search” engine a virus and should I remove it? Being in the business of repairing Computers every day, it is astonishing how many PC’s we come across that either have the “Ask.Com” searchbar or “Ask.Com” as the default search engine Ask.com is a legitimate website, which declares that its mission is to answer users’ questions with the best information from the web and from the real people, and increase personal knowledge by empowering people with answers. However there are lots of complaints about having been redirected to ask.com website without willing to do that. According to users, no matter which browser you decide to use, Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox or other one, you may find yourself redirected to Ask.com. This unfair activity is used for one main aim – to make people visit predetermined websites. Ask.com is not a virus. However, it is promoted using quite dubious methods.
