Well correct me if I'm wrong but I suspect this has been caused by a update and is a callous marketing attempt by Microsoft to have you purchase .

This may happen to anyone running “” which probably came bundled free with your or .

I have the same problem with windows live mail. I was using xp up until my computer developed some dramas. I then had windows 8 installed and that’s when my problem began.
When I first tried to open an attachment, a window appeared asking me what I wanted to do. I didn’t have any idea as to what to do ,so in frustration I clicked on word pad and now when I click on open I get all this jumble of letters and numbers that mean nothing to me.
How can I get rid of the command to open word pad and do what you did for your client ?

    Thanks,

    Peter Harris
