Is the “Ask” toolbar or “search” engine a virus and should I remove it?
Being in the business of repairing Computers every day, it is astonishing how many PC's we come across that either have the “Ask.Com” searchbar
or “Ask.Com” as the default search engine
Ask.com is a legitimate website, which declares that its mission is to answer users' questions with the best information from the web and from the real people, and increase personal knowledge by empowering people with answers.
However there are lots of complaints about having been redirected to ask.com website without willing to do that. According to users, no matter which browser you decide to use, Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox or other one, you may find yourself redirected to Ask.com. This unfair activity is used for one main aim – to make people visit predetermined websites.
Ask.com is not a virus. However, it is promoted using quite dubious methods. One of the mostly used of them is called bundling and you can install ASK by mistake when downloading Java or other freeware
