How to remove the “Snap-Do” search virus
The IT Guys have recently come across and fixed a few PCs infected with the SnapDo browser hijacker. If the default page on your browser looks like the above picture, you have it.
SnapDo Search will display advertisements and sponsored links in your search results, and may collect search terms from your search queries. It also runs a program called SnapDo.exe in the background which will also cause your computer to run slower, perhaps even become unresponsive.
SnapDo is promoted via other free downloads, and once installed it will add SnapDo Toolbar, and change your browser homepage default search engine to search.snapdo.com. SnapDo Toolbar got on your computer after you installed a freeware software (video recording/streaming, download-managers or PDF creators) that had bundled into their installation this browser hijacker and when you did so, you will have agreed to change your default browser homepage and default search engine to search.snapdo.com and install the SnapDo Toolbar.
Be very careful when installing software because often, a software installer includes optional installs, such as this SnapDo Toolbar. Don’t accept the defaults blindly and opt for the custom installation and deselect anything that is not familiar, especially optional software that you don’t need.
Even after changing your default search engine back to Google.com or something else, it will still revert back to SnapDo unless you carry out the following instructions.
Step 1 – Uninstall Snapdo.exe
Goto the Windows Control Panel and look for the “Uninstall Software” option (found under Control PanelProgramsPrograms and Features in Windows 7).
Look for “Snap.Do” by “ReSoft Ltd” and follow the uninstall procedure.
While here, also look around for any installed programs not familiar to you and uninstall them also. You may have picked up a number of similar programs recently.
